A-MAC was selected by the Detroit Board of Education for the exterior envelope restoration of Northern High School. The scope of work included complete tuck pointing, masonry cleaning and restoration, window replacement, exterior lighting and surveillance systems, new doors and access control systems, roof replacement and drainage systems. Additional interior services were added to the contract including buildout of a student health clinic, and computer labs, classroom renovations, and electrical system upgrades. To support the Board of Educations mission of teaching with minimum disturbance, a rigorous scheduled was implemented. Working for over a year on two shifts with more disruptive tasks being scheduled after 3 pm, and certain tasks performed during the students summer vacation. Financial models projected the project would pay for itself in energy savings in 8.2 years.
Northern High School was one of 31 schools to receive major renovation by A-MAC as part of the 1982 Bond.
Being one of their prequalified vendors and responding promptly with flexibility and resourcefulness to the University's Facilities Services Department, A-MAC has served Wayne State University on a multitude of projects, from asbestos abatement, to painting and interior renovations, to concrete parking deck restoration. A-MAC was also selected to replace the windows and re-caulk and repair the architectural panels on the Student Center Building. By serving not just as a contractor, but a valued partner in the University's Facilities Services Department's mission, A-MAC offered solutions and value engineering during the construction process.
Working with our internal crews and manpower, A-MAC has contracted with a multitude of regional school districts as part of their Capital Improvement Programs managed by Barton Malow. The following are a few of those projects
Groves High and Seaholm High School Interior Renovation - Birmingham Michigan
A-MAC was contracted by the Birmingham School District to perform various interior renovations at Groves and Seaholm High Schools. These alterations included a new handicap entry and various architectural trades.
Harper Woods High School Window Replacement - Harper Woods Michigan
A-MAC was contracted by the Harper Woods School District to install new energy efficient windows in the High School. This included interior renovations to decrease the window opening, masonry and architectural metal work.
Oak Park High School Interior Renovation - Oak Park Michigan
A-MAC was contracted by the Oak Park School District to perform various interior renovations at Oak Park High School. These alterations included a new Elevator enclosure, entry and various architectural trades.
In 1997 A-MAC Sales & Builders was selected as one of two Co-Program managers and part of the team for the Detroit Public Schools 1.5 Billion-dollar Capital Improvement Program (CIP) including a scheduling firm, Master Architect, and financial manager . In this capacity A- MAC was responsible for assessing the various schools and determining the amount of repairs needed to update the facility. A-MAC worked with the School District in awarding contracts, evaluating bids and supervising the construction valued at just over 50 million dollars. A-MAC had primary responsibility for the creation and implementation of project budgets, construction site safety requirements, administrative and construction procedures, design review criterion, project and master schedules. A-MAC also acted as the coordinating entity between Detroit Public Schools, the City of Detroit, Wayne County and various private developers in developing the strategy for capital investment into the local schools.
Two years later the Program Manager functions for the entire city were given to A-MAC. The total volume of projects under our control grew to over 200 million, as our management team reach approximately 5 million dollars in invoices processed and construction work put in place monthly. Part of the increased services included support for financial services, through which AMAC helped DPS decrease construction invoices processing from 60 to 18 days. In 2001 a comprehensive Program Management Services Contract was negotiated between Detroit Public Schools and the DPS-PMT L.L.C. to replace the fragmented individual contracts issued by the district in 1997. AMCM, an A-MAC affiliated company, was formed to be was a member of the DPS-PMT, and the staff assigned to the program transitioned to that company. AMCM continued to service the Detroit Public Schools until the completion of 1.5 Billion Dollar Capital Improvement Program.
