A-MAC's origins began in 1969 with the formation of A-MAC Sales & Builders. As a residential builder the initial focus was the home remodeling market, but by 1980 A-MAC Sales & Builders was serving commercial and institutional customers as well on million dollar projects. In 2000 the company split into a real estate development entity, a construction management and consulting company, and the general contracting company A-MAC Construction Services. In the 24 years since, A-MAC Construction Services has built a solid reputation as a General Contractor in South Eastern Michigan.
A-MAC was the Construction Manager for the $17,000,000 rehabilitation of the two existing buildings fo The Wellness Plan. This included infrastructure, reconfiguration of the interior spaces, complete exterior skin replacement and site and right-of-way work.
The A-MAC Development Group, in partnership with Touchstone Development was the developer and owner of several CVS Pharmacies in the Detroit area. A-MAC Construction Services acted as the construction manager for the projects.
Because of the unique nature of the facility, A-MAC self performed all Architectural construction trades in the building of the Saint Aubin Marina. Our work included: concrete, masonry, special carpentry, metals and metal finishes, window installation, painting, and other specialties.
This 81 unit LIHTC financed development is located in Highland Park Michigan. Encompassing two city blocks the project included underground infrastructure including water, sewer, electrical. Each of the two and three bedroom townhomes features a full basement, central air-conditioning, and through unit design creating both front and rear entrances. The site work and construction of all 17 individual buildings was completed in less then a year exceeding the owners schedule allowing occupancy 4 months early.
As Program Manager for the Parks Program, A-MAC was responsible for assessing selected City of Detroit parks and establishing the individual park scope through design charrettes to meet the community's recreational needs. A-MAC acted as the coordinating entity between Detroit's Parks and Recreation Department, Detroit Public Schools, various contractors and equipment suppliers, various contributors and philanthropic agencies and the Pistons Palace foundation.
A-MAC was also responsible for the creation and implementation of project budgets, administrative and construction procedures, value engineering, project and master schedules, land control issues and construction supervision.
A-MAC was the Detroit Public Schools Largest construction Vender, and ranked it their top 5 overall vendors by dollar volume for 5 years. Performing on a multitude of major contracts ranging from the window replacement program, to interior renovations for Empowered Schools, to Construction of in High School Health Clinics.
By understanding the exacting standards and unique challenges that come with working around children, we have built a niche in the education construction sector. A-MAC has served various institutions including Birmingham, Harper Woods, Oak Park, and Southfield public schools, as well as Wayne State University and WCCCD.
Comprised of 200 units in 4 complexes, the Greenfield Apartments, are just a few of the thousands of Apartments renovated for both private owners and public housing commissions and authorities through the years. The most aggressive project to day has been Detroit Housing Commission's 30/30 contract. Designed to alleviate homelessness, contractors were asked to "turn" 30 units in 30 days in several public housing complexes. A-MAC was one of only two vendors to rise to this challenge. Working 3 shifts, A-MAC crews completed 3 of these contracts.
A-MAC was contracted by the City of Detroit to construct a training facility for the Detroit Police Department. The Police Training Facility features a large Auditorium with a stage, weapons and special training rooms, offices, kitchen, locker room, garage and vehicle maintenance facility.
One of 3 "youth detention" facilities renovated by A-MAC for the State of Michigan, the original John R structure was an extended care / senior living facility. Significant renovations, security and structural upgrades were undertaken to meet the State of Michigan’s stringent requirements for youth detention. These included the addition of a gym, recreation area, classrooms, and secure inmate transport area.
